Electric Run to Light Up Sport City

Kate LawlerManchester’s night sky is set to be lit up by the sight and sound of thousands of glow stick-waving runners this May, as an American fitness craze that blends exercise and partying comes to the city for the first time.

The event is part of a fitness craze which swept through the USA last year picking up 300,000 participants and celebrity fans including Vanessa Hudgens. It’s being delivered by ‘GE Sports’ and supported in Manchester by event partners ANS, a Managed Service and Cloud specialist and radio station Key103.

Event organiser Matt Hudson commented: “Having recently been involved with Electric Run in America and more recently in Dublin, there is simply nothing quite like it.  We’ve got the absolute perfect location at Sportcity and when the sun goes down on the day of the event, it really will be transformed into an electric wonderland. Runners are all encouraged to join in on the spectacle by lighting up with glow sticks, LEDs and anything else their imagination can conjure up. We’re so excited to be coming to Manchester and putting on a night that the thousands taking part will never forget.”

The Electric Run will transform Sportcity into a neon-landscape of glowing trees, lasers and DJs on May 10th, as thousands of revellers run, walk and dance along a 5km course in aid of charity.

Nearly 5000 people have already registered to participate at the Manchester event, raising money for a number of charities including Breast Cancer Care. Entrants are encouraged to join in with the immersive atmosphere by adding glow sticks, LED lights and reflective patches to their running gear, while DJs including Key103’s Kate Lawler will deliver a pumping soundtrack to help get them in the zone.

When asked about her involvement Kate said,

I’m so excited the Electric Run is coming to Manchester!  You can walk, run or even dance your way through the show. I’m looking forward to DJ’ing on the night and playing lots of uplifting, feel good running songs to motivate people taking part. See you there and don’t forget your glow sticks!

The event is non-timed, family-friendly and will take place between 6pm and 11pm on 10th May.
