Dave Haslam's new writing project is a number of mini-books, in a series which he has dubbed 'Art Decades'. The first mini-book in the 'Art Decades' series will be 'A Life in Thirty-Five Boxes: How I Survived Selling My Record Collection'.
'A Life in Thirty-Five Boxes' explores our impulse to collect - particularly our emotional attachment to vinyl - and the notion that every record collection reflects our life story. Haslam meets several exceptional enthusiasts with fascinating vinyl collections, and tracks how his own collection built, all the way to the moment he decides to sell all his vinyl to DJ Seth Troxler, and waves goodbye to thirty-five boxes of records as they're loaded into the back of a van.
'A Life in Thirty-Five Boxes' celebrates music, life, and, finally, letting go...
At the launch event at Gorilla on 17th June 2019, Dave Haslam will be reading from the book, and signing copies. In addition, we'll hear about some of the slightly surprising things collected by guest panellists; poet Tony Walsh, musician/artist Naomi Kashiwagi, and DJ/producer Mark Rae.
Dave Haslam's most recent book 'Sonic Youth Slept On My Floor' was declared "Book of the Month" by Rough Trade Records and "Book of the Year" by 6 Music DJ Gilles Peterson. And described as "Smart, beautifully written, and utterly endearing" in The Sunday Times.
