Is it Spring yet? The coldest March in living memory finally leaves the building and rather than celebrate Sankeys have ensured that indoors solutions are still as reliable as ever, even with the slender hope of some heat forming eventually outdoors. The Ancoats epicentre of dance music will certainly be providing some heat for the opening weekend of April.
Recentes pulls together the underground from disparate territories with a great line-up which traverses the murkier edges of genres. Headlining will be Miami house hero Danny Daze, whose bass-heavy efforts have ensured he’s become synonymous with the jacking efforts of Sankeys both in Manchester and Ibiza. A master of beautifully deep and melancholy house, Danny’s acumen remains unbowed.
He’ll be joined by the skittering percussion of the house/garage hybrids of Roska, with first lady of Digital Soundboy B-Traits and Roska’s vocalist Jamie George rounding off the bill in the basement. Spektrum heaves to the drum and bass stylings of Delta Heavy and Nu:Tone & Logistics for what is an epochal offering to kick-start the weekend.
Things don’t get any less frenetic the day after. In the building will be none other than warehouse techno exponent Boddika. The bleepy barrage of modern techno has many saviours and Boddika’s speaker shattering sonics represent some of the finest, taking the music into darker and more disturbing realms. He’ll be working his magic on the Sankeys system in much the same vein as his eye catching appearances at the likes of Berghain, Fabric and Trouw.
Support comes thick and fast in the shape of DVS1, the American stalwart whose knowledge and prowess extends much further than his homeland’s recent infatuation with electronic music. The bill is closed off by local stalwart Juniper and the off kilter genius of Rinse FM approved Mickey Pearce, plus Sankeys’ friends and residents.
