The Red Bull Music Academy Sound System series promises to bring a roaming pulpit of sun-drenched rhythms, triumphant beats and street party antics to Manchester Carnival on Saturday 19 July.
Taking place at Platts Field Park in Fallowfield, the opening procession will weave through the streets of Moss Side, Hulme and surrounding areas before revellers will be entertained by a selection of local, soca and reggae music acts on the main stage.
As part of the Carribbean festival, the Red Bull Music Academy Sound System will also offer its bass-heavy lineup of talent from midday until 9pm – completely free of charge.
The northern instalment of the tour is headed up by an exclusive carnival set from king of (the) jungle and Kiss FM heavy DJ Hype, who’s unrelenting torrents of drum’n’bass, breakbeat and hip-hop have made him one of his generation’s dance floor pioneers.
He will be joined by local Manchester lynchpins Murkage, led by rapper Murkage Dave. Bristol bass mainstay Pinch goes b2b with the genre-hopping Mumdance, while East London’s Butterz founders Elijah and Skilliam join the party, as do garage, house, drum 'n' bass and hip-hop fusing trio Dark Sky.
Jamaican/Glaswegian outfit Mungo’s Hi Fi, 2010 Red Bull Music Academy graduate Poirier, Manchester grime MC’s Levelz, grime fusion mechanic Chimpo and Sheffield’s reggae record mecca Sama Roots also step in.
Murkage have created a special version of their single Can I Live in celebration of appearing on the RBMA Sound System at Manchester Carnival, PRESS HERE to check it out.
In celebration of those excellent bass purveyors Murkage joining one of the most high energy Red Bull Music Academy Sound System lineups we've ever seen at the Manchester Carnival, we present this exclusive live carnival reworking of Can I Live, recorded at the Red Bull Studio London.
