The five-star Lowry Hotel is celebrating its 15th birthday this month with a range of themed offers.
The hotel will be offering 15 rooms throughout the year for only £15, details will be announced by the hotel on social media.
All guests with over 15 stays who stay between until 30th April will receive 15% off all food and drink.
One cocktail per month will be offered at 15% off, and the most popular cocktail will be announced at the end of the year.
From 28 April, in keeping with the hotel’s art theme, there will be 15th Anniversary Gallery Exhibition by Comme Ca Art: featuring some of the best works over the last 15 years.
The hotel’s River Restaurant will host a celebration dinner with a 15-course menu later in the year.
A comprehensive makeover of the 165-room hotel has taken place since September 2014. Guests now enjoy an enhanced resident experience through the introduction of new SMART TVs and Wi-Fi, alongside new curtains, carpets, fabrics and colour schemes throughout the bedrooms and public areas.
The £4m transformation will rise to £5.25m, reveals General Manager Adrian Ellis, with refurbishments throughout 2016 of its suites, and conference and spa facilities.
The hotel was opened by Sir Rocco Forte’s hotel group in 2001 after he was encouraged by the yacht sail-style footbridge linking Manchester and Salford, designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, which opened in 1995.
Mr Ellis, who arrived in 2014 after managing prestige hotels worldwide in a 25-year career, has emphasised the hotel’s distinctive art theme, including buying and commissioning original art.
Says Mr Ellis: “We are the only hotel in the city centre named after an artist, and we are proud to celebrate not only LS Lowry, renowned for his depictions of Salford, but also by displaying contemporary artists and photographers.
Since it opened the hotel has won more than 60 awards. This week (April 5th) the Manchester Evening News wrote: “the hotel has remained in the premier league - a refuge for superstar football teams like Barcelona, rock and pop legends, film and TV actors, and a legion of loyal customers.”
General manager Adrian Ellis says: “We provide luxurious accommodation and public areas with a range of extra facilities, and a multilingual service is available. Guests are greeted at the hotel entrance and we have a high quality menu and wine list.
The anniversary has prompted some memories among the staff of famous guests.
My most memorable guest was the Dalai Lama. You can go into the bar and see a footballer, but how often do you see the Dalai Lama
Joe Paull, reservations manager, said: “I started as bar manager. Soon after the hotel opened on my first week Robbie Williams played in Manchester and announced from the stage that he was staying at The Lowry.
"All of a sudden 400 mainly young ladies turned up at the bar. Unfortunately for them he went straight up to his room.”
Emma Walker, conferencing and banqueting manager, said: “My most memorable guest was the Dalai Lama. You can go into the bar and see a footballer, but how often do you see the Dalai Lama.”
Russ Green, Head Concierge, said: “Once when Cilla Black was staying with a friend she asked me to get her into a very exclusive bar called Sugar Lounge, so I arranged it. She insisted that I go with them to speak to the doormen and secure her entry to the club.
“Once I had done that, she insisted that I stay with them, and drink champagne. So there I was on the dance floor, dressed in my hotel uniform and my name badge, drinking bubbly with Cilla.
“She was very keen for me to stay and enjoy the night with them - but I had to leave after a half an hour. I had a 7am shift the next morning!”
