A call for donations from Levenshulme Market

Social enterprise Levenshulme Market is teaming up with Burnage Foodbank to help collect food for local people in crisis.

The Market will be acting as a Collection Point for food donations every Saturday, starting on Saturday 8th August when it holds its monthly food and drink themed market. Market visitors and local people can use this Collection Point to donate unwanted but in-date food items – items particularly sought-after are sugar, coffee, UHT milk, rice, tinned meat, fruit juice and toiletries.

All food collected will be dropped off at the Burnage Foodbank, which receives donations from other collection points all over the area, including St Nicholas’ Church, Burnage Academy and Tesco Supermarket, all in Burnage itself.

The Foodbank, a project seeded by the Trussell Trust and run in partnership with local churches led by Christians Together in Burnage, works tirelessly with the help of a team of volunteers to sort and weigh all food, before it can be made available to people who really need it.

All donations will be greatly appreciated, with the ultimate aim of providing recipients with nutritionally balanced food for themselves and their families.

Frontline professionals such as doctors and social workers, as well as Citizens Advice, identify people in crisis and issue them with foodbank vouchers, which they can then hand in at the Burnage Foodbank in exchange for a food parcel.

With the aim of helping people desperately in need of support in times of trouble, Levenshulme Market is now issuing a call for donations from the residents of Levenshulme as well as visitors to the market from further afield.

All donations will be greatly appreciated, with the ultimate aim of providing recipients with nutritionally balanced food for themselves and their families.

The Collection Point, clearly signposted and under a green gazebo, will be available between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 8th August 2015 and on every Saturday following. All donations will be gratefully received.
