SPIKE ISLAND launches with exclusive Band on the Wall gig

To celebrate the hotly anticipated release of Spike Island on DVD & Blu-Ray there is an exclusive gig, party and Q and A at Manchester venue Band on the Wall on Wednesday 16th October.

The event will feature much lauded Manchester bands The Quangos and The Minx, hosted by Xfm’s Jo Good, with a Q and A to reveal the secrets behind the film plus Spike Island drinks and loads of goodies.

Spike Island is Mat Whitecross’ nostalgic snapshot of 90’s Manchester, following five enterprising 16-year-old lads through 72 hours that shape their future, on the road to see The Stone Roses in their legendary Spike Island gig.

Gary 'Tits' Titchfield (Elliot Tittensor – Shameless), Darren 'Dodge' Howard (Nico Mirallegro – Upstairs Downstairs, The Village), 'Chris 'Zippy' Weeks, 'Little Gaz’ Duffy and 'Penfold' Andrew Peach are SHADOW CASTER, a wannabe band on the verge of leaving school and conquering the world. They’ve set their hearts on getting their demo tape in to the hands of their idols, but first they need tickets to the gig…

Written by Chris Coghill (24 Hour Party People, Shameless) and directed by Mat Whitecross (The Road To Guantanamo, Ashes), Spike Island evokes the feeling of being 16, when music and your friends are your entire world, and a lifetime feels like forever. Nothing will stop them from getting to the gig, but their journey tests their friendships to the limits and their lives change forever.

Featuring stand out performances from Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Sally, the object of both Tits and Dodge’s affections, and Lesley Manville (Another Year, Ashes) as Margaret, Tits’ mum, Spike Island is a Northern film with heart and soul.

Mat Whitecross comments:

‘I love coming of age films like Francis Ford Coppla’s Rumblefish and Rob Reiner’s Stand By Me, they’re about people on the cusp of doing something with their life, the feeling that they must and how to achieve it. Everyone has gone through it, I certainly did growing up.’

Spike Island is produced by Fiona Neilson and Esther Douglas for Fiesta Productions and distributed by Vertigo Films and Universal.
