The Appleton Estate Rum Bus parks up in Great Northern Square

The Appleton Estate Rum Bus

Alighting Thursday 17th July, the Appleton Estate Rum Bus is coming to Manchester for an extended four-week stopover, with the team from West Didsbury’s The Violet Hour serving up a selection of classic Rum cocktails from its summer home in Great Northern Square.

The fully functioning mobile rum bus, with side opening bar and inside seating area, serves a selection of four Appleton Estate cocktails inside and out, come rain or shine. The bus will take up residence outside the entrance to the Great Northern and will host an 80 capacity pop-up outdoor seating area, with benches and parasols for rum lovers to take advantage of the sunshine.

The cocktail experts at The Violet Hour have curated the cocktail list and will be serving Appleton classic Rum Punch, Mai Tai and Jamaican Mule, plus the specially created Rum & Raisin Nice Dream. In addition rum lovers can expect limited edition weekly specials, with details announced via Twitter.

The Appleton Estate Rum Bus is a sophisticated drinking experience, inspired by the Jamaican Omnibus series bus, which operated in Kingston from 1948 until the late 70’s.  The whole experience takes you on a journey to Jamaica, to an age of heritage and tradition, and to the place where Appleton Estate started to make some of the finest rum in the world back in 1749.

The bar is hand made in the same coach-building style as the bus itself - featuring hand riveted joints and rolled aluminium top with the Interior maintaining all of the original features - from luggage racks to skylights and seats. The removed seats have been adapted to create an outdoor seating area and an interior furnished with vintage luggage and props.

Dan Pollard, owner of the Violet Hour, comments:

From the moment we saw the Appleton Estate Rum Bus we knew it would be perfect for a summer of Rum in Manchester. The quality, attention to detail is second to none, as of course is the Rum.
