An Evening in Manchester with Artist Richard Blunt

An Evening in Manchester with Artist Richard Blunt

The works of painter Richard Blunt will be on display in Manchester, with the artist himself making a guest appearance at the gallery this weekend.

Blunt will be unveiling his latest collection of original and limited edition pieces at Castle Galleries, Manchester this Saturday 13th December, between 2-5pm.

Blunt’s technique of using the contrast between light and dark has been heavily influenced by the works of Baroque painter, Caravaggio, and allows him to blend the paint to create cinematic scenes full of vibrancy and romance.

Blunt captures a raw naturalism through his use of contrasting tones and attention to detail in his new collection.

Nicholas Beese, Castle Galleries, Manchester’s Gallery Manager, said: “We’re excited to have the works of Richard Blunt on display at the gallery this week, especially as Richard will be personally unveiling the new collection.

“The collection itself evokes an air of mystery and romance, which will instantly allow the viewer to escape into the story being told through the characters and idealistic settings. He is an up-and-coming artist and it’s a pleasure to exhibit and share his brand new collection with the people of Manchester.”

Blunt is best known for his paintings that have a distinct cinematic style and draw inspiration from music and films. His latest collection features pieces that resemble romantic stills from films such as ‘West Side Story’ and other past era themed movies, which translates through his current and past collections.

Blunt said: “I’ve been a massive fan of film and music my whole life, so I suppose it’s hardly surprising that I took influence from them both. A lot of my very early work contained musicians or scenes from films and I still find myself scrambling for the remote to pause a film, because I’ve seen something that would make a great painting.”

The collection will be available at Castle Galleries, Manchester from Saturday 13th December with Blunt making an appearance at the gallery between 2-5pm.
