From Thursday 21st April, PLY officially launches its large-scale Doodle Wall and the first artist to make her mark is Manchester based illustrator and photographer Katie Cooper.
Local artists are being invited to show off their creative skills on the 4 x 3.5 metre wall installation, which is positioned prominently next to the bar. Refreshed every eight weeks, the Doodle Wall is a long-term initiative delivered in partnership with Absolut, PLY’s arts partner.
Katie is a fan of improvisation when it comes to her work. She’s following the theme of framed pictures on a living room wall for PLY, splitting her illustrations into nine different frames which feature a few of her favourite things, including Russian dolls, sea life and the great outdoors.
Katie is no stranger to the challenge of large-scale work, her illustrations have featured on a 20x20ft walls of Urban Outfitters in both Manchester and Sheffield and her monochrome, thick line-illustration style has featured in bars around the Northern Quarter and Fallowfield.
Beki Rymsza, Marketing Manager at PLY comments “With PLY’s current exhibition programme showcasing the international artists from our #PLYin90seconds launch exhibition, the Doodle Wall is the perfect opportunity for us to invite local, Manchester artists to make their mark too.”
