Northern Quarter-goers are challenged to put their brains to the test with a new weekly pub quiz night launching Tuesday 9th February at The Pen and Pencil.

The quiz will be hosted by local quizmaster John Stansfield ( @johnwinsagain ).

The concept is simple - Contestants pay £1 each to take part and the winning team takes all. The bar will also offer a round of the beers for the best team name.

We've always known the Northern Quarter are a brainy bunch and now it's time to prove it.

Dan Pollard, co-owner of The Pen and Pencil said, "We're really excited to host our very first quiz night! We've always known the Northern Quarter are a brainy bunch and now it's time to prove it. We're hoping it'll be a great night that everyone can get stuck into, especially for the after-work crowds. What better way to build some team spirit than with a little trivia?"

Guests can enjoy a selection of the bar's delicious New York inspired cocktails and a quality range of beers and ales to relax their minds as they put their brains to the test. The quiz will consist of 4 rounds including: film and TV, general knowledge, music and a special 'wildcard' round. Each week the losing team will choose the wildcard round for the following week (from a list of options).

The Pen and Pencil will be holding a Twitter vote so the public can decide what the wildcard round will be for the very first quiz night.
