So you believe in God!

So you believe in GodIf you can answer the following and believe your answers to be true then it’s much more likely you're deluded rather than clever.

Have you read the bible? Most people who say they have constantly read and re-read only the parts they feel comfortable with and ignore the rest.

If you said yes - state any parts that include incest, rape, Genocide (by the big guy), homosexual acts and God offering to show his butt to a profit but only if he hid behind a rock.

Why would a God create a world that is inherently imperfect? a species that is inherently imperfect and demand they are perfect whilst praising him all there life. Their reward for this is to spend the rest of eternity praising God. This smacks of a desperately insecure being that needs mankind much more than we need him.

It is estimated than mankind in a recognisable form has been on the planet for 100 to 200 million years (if you believe the earth is 6000 years old I suggest you go and lie in a bath of cold water until the throbbing stops). Why then did this God character wait 98 million to 198 million years before he decided to step in and if only those who have heard and accepted his message can go to heaven what about those millions who lived over 2,000 years ago? It implies all who lived before are burning in Hell for ignoring a message that was not delivered.

Why did Jesus command we hate everybody? If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.14:25-27 KJB

See how many references to the devil you can find in the Old Testament. Note exclude the term devils as this reference to any old bogey man. Those of you that rushed to Adam and Eve will only find a serpent.

Why does every picture of Adam and Eve show them with belly buttons, how did that happen?

When Laban took all of Jacobs stripped and spotted cows how did Jacob cutting these patterns into the bark of trees and mating his new plain cows in front of them result in stripped and spotted calf’s? Please explain.

Why did the significant drop in miracles decline to almost nil following the invention of the still and movie camera?

Why did Jesus command we hate everybody? If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.14:25-27 KJB

Why did Jesus command we kill all of his enemies ‘But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. Luke 19:27

People thought that Jesus was a revolutionary whom had come to change the laws of the old testament Jesus told them ‘I have not come to abolish the law or the Prophets but to uphold them I tell you the truth until Heaven and Earth are gone, not one word of the law, not even a single stroke of the pen will disappear until everything is done. He who disregard even one Iota of the law will be considered least in the Kingdom of heaven’ Mathew 5: 17-19

Jesus said ‘I tell you the truth many of you will still be alive when I return to rule my Kingdom. Luke 9:27  this may be the origin of the wandering Jew as if everybody  is dead then people may question more.

The Wandering Jew is a fictional figure whose legend began to spread in Europe in the 13th century.[1] The original legend concerns a Jew who taunted Jesus on the way to the Crucifixion and was then cursed to walk the earth until the Second Coming. So there you are - 10 questions/statements for you to explain.

Source: The King James Bible with recognition to Horus Gilgamesh who i love. If this floats your boat buy his books on Amazon ‘Awkward Moments (not found in the average) children’s bible part 1 and 2.

There are many versions of the bible in many languages, it is generally accepted the King James Version is not only a fair translation but also beautifully worded, that said it has passed through many hands and many translators. It is fair to say it has had many contributors some up to 800 years after the death of Jesus. However the original scripts, many of which you will not have seen or even heard off originated well over 2000 years ago from Arab goat herders who probably will not have travelled more than 50 miles from where they were born. The average 10 year  old will have a greater concept of the earth than the writers of this ‘sacred, text.

A reply from the Dean of Manchester:

We invited the The Very Reverend Rogers Govender, Dean of Manchester to comment, here's what he said:

The heart of the Christian message is a reminder by Jesus to love God and to love our neighbour as ourselves. This was a response to a rich and intelligent man who asked Jesus which was the greatest commandment in the law.  I believe that God is the creator of the universe and that Jesus is the human face and revelation of God.

The power of God is always at work through his Holy Spirit. We believe that the power of God is always at work in transforming a full and sinful humanity and through forgiveness of our sins, God enables us to continue flourishing to the full human and god given potential.  The evidence for God and his transforming power can be seen in numerous transformed lives.

These are people who live as followers of Jesus Christ, whilst recognising their own sinfulness and weakness yet live by the sheer grace and love of God.  One of the most compelling examples of deep belief in God is to be found in the lives of Christians martyrs who have often sacrificed their lives instead of denying their faith and belief in God.  God is a revolutionary being whose presence and power is liberating.  This can be seen from God’s liberating of oppressed Jews in the book Exodus through to the liberating gospel of Jesus Christ as he creates a new community called the Kingdom of God.

Article by Michael Colwell

About Michael: "I was raised a Catholic but by the age of 11 started thinking ‘people can’t really believe this and for a while saw it as metaphors, later in life I began to understand many people believe every convoluted statement and there is a huge industry printing, selling and promoting this as a book of facts you should live by (not a great idea). I would like feedback of this column (No crazies please : )".
