Rose Gold is the story of Rose, an aspiring DJ who cares for her seriously ill mother who has debilitating Multiple Sclerosis (MS).  When Karen asks Rose to supply her with Cannabis to relieve her pain, word soon gets out and Rose finds herself supplying to her local ‘MS’ community along with three part time jobs; one paper round, one hormonal younger brother and a school life.  Set in 1996, Simon wanted to fuse together the music of Manchester as well as showing the positive side to drugs such as cannabis.

There is also a featured cast from Coronations Street’s Suranne Jones, Shameless’ Maxine Peake and a cameo by the famous Peter Hook (Co-founder of Joy Division which went on to become New Order)...as well as various other actors from programmes/films such as Shameless, Master & Commander, Farside of the World, Boat That Rocked and Calendar Girls. However Simon doesn’t necessarily cast his actors on whether they are ‘known faces’ ...”It’s more about if their face fits the part”.

As the film is set in 1996 we all see the impact of how the infamous Manchester Bombing affects the lives of the characters after the event but the main spirit of Rose Gold however, is that it is a family drama.

Rose Gold will have a very heavy musical influence as we know how influential the Manchester music scene in the 1990’s was, especially the club scene and the music being played.

The film has also had interest from Warp Films who backed Shane Meadows ‘Dead man’s shoes’ and This Is England’.  Rose Gold will be shot through-out the summer and Simon is hoping for a cinema release in 2012.

Simon is making a name for himself within the Independent film industry, his first feature film ‘Poor Wee Me’ was filmed using a budget of under £2,000 and the script was that good it attracted regular TV actors/actresses such as Paul Hurstfield, Anthony Crank, Tim Booth and Ian Puleston-Davies including many others and has already been screened in various independent cinemas.
