The At-Home Facial

Treating your skin to a facial every now and again can have a huge impact on its appearance, texture and health.

All the benefits of a spa facial in your own home!

Not only is this method far more purse-friendly but having some pampering ‘me time’ every now and again has been shown to have a positive effect on your general well-being.

Cleanse

To thoroughly cleanse your skin mix one part of olive oil with one part sweet almond oil and add two drops of lavender essential oil.

Use this concoction to gently massage the face and neck in small circular motions for a good 3-4 minutes to allow the oil to really penetrate the skin and blitz dirt, excess oil and dead skin cells.

Remove the oil by dipping a muslin cloth in warm water, squeeze out the residue and place over face and leave for 10 seconds then wipe away. Repeat this process until your skin feels thoroughly cleansed.

Steam

All skin types can benefit from the power of steam – it boosts circulation giving your skin a brighter and radiant appearance. Fill your sink basin with 3 pints of freshly boiled water then add a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil.

Place your head 30cm away from the steam then cover yourself with a towel to trap in the steam. Take deep breathes and allow the steam to deep clean your pores.

I suggest you stay under there for about 5-8 minutes. Once done fill your sink up with cool water and add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar then splash your face with this 5-6 times.

Mask

To make a DIY mask with an exfoliating action mix together 2 tablespoons of green clay with 1 teaspoon of rosewater until you have a paste. Mix in one tablespoon of whatever exfoliator you have to hand for example salt, sugar or even poppy seeds.

Add two drops of bergamot essential oil and two drops of lemon essential oil and mix thoroughly until well combined. Apply your mask and leave to set for 10-15 minutes. To remove splash your face mask with warm water and gently rub off in circular motions to exfoliate.

Moisturise

To finish your at-home facial whip together 1 teaspoon of shea butter, ½ teaspoon of sweet almond oil and 4 drops of geranium essential oil in a pestle and mortar until you have a molten-like mixture.

Take some of the moisturiser and rub between your hands until warmed through. Pat your hands all over your face and neck and leave to sink in for 5 minutes after which blot your face with a tissue to remove excess residue.

You skin should now be feeling silky soft and thoroughly revived! Keeping up this regime once a week will undoubtedly boost your skins radiance and general health.
