Invisible Bullets

Manchester Filmmaker Chris Lane is gunning for the top with his brilliant directorial debut and entry into this year’s Virgin Media Shorts competition.

lineChris Lane began making films in Manchester five years ago and is certainly no stranger to the filmmaking process having had work screened on MTV, exhibited at numerous galleries and selected for festivals worldwide. However his latest short film, Invisible Bullets, marks the first time Chris has taken on both producer and directorial duties. Manchester Gossip met up with the first time director to see how the opportunity came about.

“The truth is I was never meant to direct this project. Colin Warhurst, a fellow filmmaker and the director of our last project Bog Standard was first approached, but because he was busy slaving away on a corporate job I got the gig, by default.

As a freelance producer by trade I was almost waiting for someone to point out that I’d never actually directed a film before, and that I probably wasn’t the best man for the job. But when nobody said anything I decided that I had better get my head down and began working on the storyboard”.

“I am really pleased with the final film, especially given the time constraints, and would love it if the people of Manchester were to get behind Invisible Bullets. The film is only a couple of minutes long but it took sixteen talented individuals from across the North West to make it what it is”.

The film has been entered into an annual competition run by Virgin called Virgin Media Shorts and 12 filmmakers will win a chance to show their work on 214 cinema screens nationwide, while 1 lucky winner will land £30,000 to make their next film.

“Obviously we’d love to make the shortlist but at the end of the day I’ve met and worked with some fantastic people on this film, and this can only be a good thing for future projects”.
