Hot Chip

In an age when most bands don't get past album no.1, Gossip HQ faves - Hot Chip are steaming past album no.4!

We spoke to main man Joe Goddard...

line
The electro pop band released "One Life Stand " in February 2010 and are currently touring the world promoting it. We caught up with Joe Goddard between shows and got the chance to ask a few questions;

What does it take for a band to stay together long enough to release 4 albums?
line
I suppose you just have to be quite understanding and respectful of each other and not act like a dick.  When we're not touring I tend to spend less time with the others as well, so that when we are on tour it feels special.

How important is playing live to a band like Hot Chip and what’s the best UK Festival you've ever played?
line
Playing live is massive for us, its exciting to me and fun and I'm proud of how our band sounds live- I love it.  We've developed it over a really long time.  the best UK festival is Glastonbury without a doubt in my mind, but Green Man in Wales and Oxogen in Ireland are also really
really nice.

Radio Play is important when breaking any new act , how will the possible closure of 6 Music effect the UK music scene?
line
New bands wont get as much of a chance to get on the radio, 6Music is great at covering stuff that is too left field for Radio 1 and 2.

Who are your musical heroes Joe and have you ever been starstuck?
line
My musical heroes are Phil Spector, Madlib, Timbaland and brian wilson. I was very star struck meeting Chaka Khan, Peter gabriel, Ringo and Bjork- basically I'm useless in front of anyone even mildly famous.

Any new acts we should be listening out for?
line
Casiokids are fantastic, Grovesnor is Fantastic, Noze are fantastic, we've toured with all of these people and I can vouch for the fact that they are lovely and very polite.

Have you ever had any top nights out in Manchester if so where did you go?
line
My best nights in Manchester have been out with friends in bars in the northern quarter, I've DJ'd at the Warehouse Project and that was pretty good.

Cheers Joe, Top Fella, Top band. http://hotchip.co.uk/
