Manchester men are once again preparing to donate their upper lips to Movember, the 30 day journey of Mo’mentous moustachery and grooming glory. The charity initiative which aims to raise money and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer, has opened for the 2011 season of moustache finery.
Mo Bros and Mo Sistas of Manchester can now register at www.movember.com. To get involved Mo Bros are asked to register online and start the month of November clean shaven. Their emerging moustache will then become a ribbon for men’s health and the Mo Bros of Manchester will become walking talking billboards for the 30 days of Movember.
Female supporters ‘Mo Sistas’, are key to the success of the campaign acting as ambassadors, spreading the word and showing their support.
The people of Manchester are already proving themselves as passionate Mo Bros and Mo Sistas with great community support growing across the city. Manchester was one of the first official UK cities outside of London where support was so strong that Movember ventured to the north to host official events. The support from the people of Manchester has gone from strength to strength, the Mo Bros and Mo Sistas of Manchester raised over £84,000 in 2010 and we’re excited to see what the communities of Manchester will grow.
The student community has already laid down the hairy gauntlet joining Movember’s University Challenge, inviting teams from the University of Manchester, Salford University and Manchester Metropolitan University to go head to head.
Lips are twitching across the town and of course every great Mo Bro needs a great Barber to style his moustache finery, so Movember has teamed up with Gentry Grooming of Deansgate, the official Mo’ Barber in Manchester, offering discounts to Mo Bros during the month.
Bars and restaurants across Manchester will also be adding to the remarkable 30 day experience into the wild by offering various discounts and Mo specials to the city’s passionate Mo Bros and Mo Sistas.
Tom Selleck and Freddie Mercury look-a-likes get ready!
With Manchester coming together to change the face of men’s health, there’s certainly a need for celebration and on 29th November Tom Selleck and Freddie Mercury look-a-likes will celebrate their Mo growing journey together at Apotheca for the official Manchester Gala Parté.
These incredible fundraising efforts have funded programmes run directly by Movember and our men’s health partners The Prostate Cancer Charity and the Institute of Cancer Research.
JC, Co-Founder of Movember comments:
Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne, Australia in 2003, Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 1.1 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate. Just eight years on there are official campaigns running this year in the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Spain.
Each year 37,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with prostate cancer which is now the most common cancer diagnosed in men. To register, donate and for more information about Movember go to www.movember.com
